Seeing the masses of people in Chinatown, all vaguely aware of each others' existence, was a wonderful experience. It made me feel small, and unscrutinized. Each of my actions didn't really matter. No one cared. There were certainly people acting poorly, running into each other, yelling at each other to move out of the way. But this didn't bother me much. The significance of each individual event didn't seem all that great. There would be thousands more such events very soon.
